Doing THE PLANK!

Welcome to the PE HOMEPLAY site!  Look below for the current PE Homeplay assignment.  Complete the assignment and then click on the "Blog" tab (located just above the toucan in the upper right hand corner) to report what you've done. Please remember to report at the correct grade level and include first and last name.  You may also complete and report previous Homeplay assignments if you missed them.  If you're unable to use the blog, just bring a note signed by your parents reporting what you completed.  You may also report through email to jgedde@osd.wednet.edu ! Hurray for healthy lifestyles!

PE HOMEPLAY FOR FEBRUARY 4 - FEBRUARY 10:  Practice the Centennial Party Rock Anthem Dance!  Watch the video below if you need help.  Remember that we'll be doing the dance at Friday Sing on Feb. 10th and if you wear bright colored clothes, it will add to the festivity!

PE HOMEPLAY FOR JANUARY 25 - FEBRUARY 2: We're working on our  basketball skills!  Choose a particular skill (like dribbling, passing, shooting) and set a goal for improving that skill.  Tell me what your goal is and how you're reaching that goal!

PE HOMEPLAY FOR NOVEMBER 29 - DECEMBER 8:  Use some canned food as weights and do the Can-Can Workout before you donate them to the Centennial Canned Food Drive!  See the video below!

PE HOMEPLAY FOR NOVEMBER 19 - NOVEMBER 28:  In PE we had a great time doing the GREAT CHICKEN RACE - an obstacle course that we raced through (with a chicken!) as teams, each person on the team doing a section of the course.  Be creative and set up an obstacle course of your own!  See how fast your family can complete it as a team!

PE HOMEPLAY FOR NOVEMBER 4 - NOVEMBER 18:

To increase upper body and core strength, work on doing a handstand!  To begin, stand with your back to a wall and (with permission!) put your hands on the ground in front of you and walk up the wall with your feet.  If you're able, walk your hands in closer to the wall.  Once you've developed the strength to support yourself, in a safe space try kicking up into a free handstand! (See photo below.)

PE HOMEPLAY FOR OCTOBER 28 - NOVEMBER 3:

Play a few rounds of PARTNER HOCKEY!  (See video clip below)  You and a partner face each other in push-up position and attempt to score goals by sliding a bean bag or rolled up sock through the opponent's arms.  Be sure and stay in push-up position!  Who can score ten points first?

PE HOMEPLAY FOR OCTOBER 20 - OCTOBER 27:

To strengthen your core, do THE PLANK (see photos)!  Try to hold the pose for a minute, and consider doing the pose in some unusual places!  Be creative, but of course, be safe!

PE HOMEPLAY FOR OCTOBER 6 - OCTOBER 19:

Do a check-up on your push-ups!  Try the Push-up Challenge and see if you can move up the challenge ladder.  If you've forgotten how to do each of the different levels, click on the file below to view a movie of Centennial students demonstrating the PUSH-UP CHALLENGE!

Remember to start at the beginning, or where you last left off.  When you are able to master a level (10 repetitions using good form!) move on to the next level.

1.  Wall push-up  2.  Incline push-up  3.  Knee-stance push-up  4.  Military push-up (fitness testing level)  5.  Decline push-up  6.  Wide-stance push-up  7.  Diamond push-up  8.  One-arm push-up  9.  Plyometric push-up    10.  Clap push-up  11.  Handstand push-up

PE HOMEPLAY FOR SEPTEMBER 28 - OCTOBER 5:

Find a safe place to do some jogging to get ready for the Pumpkin Fund Run (Friday, Oct. 7th)!  Use a pace that you can keep up for 15 minutes - fast enough to make your heart beat faster than normal, to make you breathe harder than normal and to make you a little hot and sweaty... but also slow enough to allow you to carry on a conversation!  Don't forget to report your PE Homeplay to earn a Fantastic Feat Foot!

PE HOMEPLAY FOR SEPTEMBER 21- SEPTEMBER 28:

Play a game of Pirates and Parrots with your family!  Divide into two teams - the pirates and the parrots.  The pirates do the silliest, craziest, piratey dance they can think of (dance hard enough that you get a little hot and sweaty!).  The parrots must watch the dance, but they are not allowed to smile or laugh!  If they do, they lose the game!  Then, switch places! Yo ho ho and a whole lot of fun!

PE HOMEPLAY FOR SEPTEMBER 14 - SEPTEMBER 21:

Take a family member for a walk!  Walk long enough and fast enough to get a little hot and sweaty and make your heart beat faster than normal, but still be able to talk about your favorite thing at Centennial this year!

GOOD LUCK, CENTENNIAL STARS!!!                                                                   Have fun, and report to the Blog, email  jgedde@osd.wednet.edu  or bring a note from home to earn a Fantastic Feat Award!
