The final assessment for fractions will be on Monday, April 30th.Students can use the completed work and their chapter packets that are coming home in Friday folders to review. On the assessment, students will be expected to:
*Recognize, name and show commonly used fractions through 1/12
*Recognize, name and show commonly used fractions: ½, 1/3, 2/3, ¼ and ¾
*Place 0 and halves on a number line
*Compare fractions from 1/12 to ½
*Recognize that fractions such as 2/2, 3/3, 4/4 are equal to one whole
Social Studies Assessment:
The final assessment for Economics will be on Wednesday, May 2nd.A completed packet of study as well as other activities will be coming home in Friday folders.Students can use these to review the vocabulary terms including:

MAP Assessment:
Lakeside 2nd-5th grade will be taking the MAP assessments again this May.Our classroom’s assigned times are as follows:
Friday, May 11th (8:30-10:15) – Math Assessment
Thursday, May 17th (8:30-10:15) – Reading Assessment
Thursday, May 17th (10:30-11:30) – Language Use Assessment
It is most beneficial for students to take these assessments with their class.Therefore, please try to schedule any appointments around these times.Thank you!J
Field Trip:
Our class will be going to VanAndel Museum on Wednesday, May 9th.We will be touring the Grand Rapids Then and Now exhibit as part of our study of Grand Rapids History.We will be leaving Lakeside at 8:35 and will be back by 11:30.
Day of Caring Surprise!!!:
Part of the second grade study of communities, core democratic values and our Lakeside “Kindness Counts” motto is to celebrate a wonderful second grade year with a Day of Caring.We will be doing different activities and lessons in our classroom all day and the culminating event will be a presentation of letters to each student.A “top secret” letter is coming home in Friday folders to further explain this activity.If you have any questions after reading the letter, please let me know!J
Author Visit:
Jerry Pallotta will be visiting Lakeside on Thursday, May 24th.He is the author of many wonderful books including the Who Would Win? series.If you would like to order any of his books and have them signed, an order form was sent by e-mail and books will be delivered to students in their classrooms.
Variety Show:
Forms for the variety show have been e-mailed out and are due Friday, April 27th.The variety show will be performed for the school on Wednesday, May 23rd.
