Course Description

Mime Troupe is an auditioned class. It is advanced study, through mime and mask work, in developing acting and mime skills. Students are able to take the course for three years, if eligible. There is a required performance component leading to a full-length production. Students will perform for public occasions. As students advance, technique should improve, larger roles will be taken and leadership positions will be expected.

 

Course Requirements

Participation in full length mime rehearsals and production.

Participation in street mime performances.

Movement appropriate clothing: leotard and tights (or leggings), sweat pants and T-Shirt, modest shorts and T-Shirt, or Gi Pants.

Movement appropriate shoes: Jazz shoes, ballet shoes, thin soled tennis shoes, socks with rubber grip bottoms, or barefoot.

A weekly Journal, chronicling creative and theatrical ideas.

It is necessary for all students to turn work in on time and to correct notes given on initial performances.

Course Schedule/Syllabus

Journals due the 1st class day of every week.

Daily physical warm-ups and technique work. Seniors will rotate leadership.

Students will perform duet scenes on assigned topics which focus on character, illusionarytechniques, Class rehearsal, research, and character development for the full-length production, will begin, and eventually include required rehearsal after school.

Mask performance and body shaping for characters.

Creation and performance of duet scenes

Design of masks Papier Mache mask creation/Technique and style/Painting technique

Character development and performance of created mask character.
