Booker T. Washington HSPVA - Theatre Department Scene Study – American Theatre Course Description Scene study is geared toward giving the student an opportunity to act in and experience a wide array of American playwrights from the 20th century. Students will study scenes from (but, not limited to) such playwrights as Miller, Odets, O’Neill, Simon, Anderson, and Williams. Course Requirements A folder will be needed to keep notes, scripts and assignments in for future access. Punctuality, paying attention, and turning in work on time is a must for keeping up with the work load. As always, it is the responsibility of the student to keep up with assignments Evaluation Classwork/homework 40% Tests 25% Projects/Products 20% 6 weeks test 15% Schedule/Syllabus Students will rotate partners for each playwright. Students will research the playwright/style/historical period and present a paper. Sides will be studied and performed from the list of playwrights in the course description. Sharing the stage effectively, timing/pace and the effects, psychological blocking, emotional arcs, given circumstances, objectives, and non verbal information will be addressed in rehearsals and performances. Character notebooks will be kept for each character performed. Tests will be given on style comparison.
