The district’s new iEnglish 1,2 course will be piloted next year at Palmer High School. It is not an intervention course, and will not be listed as a course “offering” – rather, it will be piloted by a few ninth grade English teachers under the current Eng 1,2 course title. This course separates itself, however, from our current offering in a few key (mainly philosophical) ways: it strives to put the student at the center of their educational experience in ways that we haven’t yet done – giving students more choice in reading and writing, as well as showcasing their own voices as sources of information; it includes ways to address the new work-ready standards that will be added to the Colorado State Standards; it takes advantage of the wide array of technological and multi-media tools that enrich the teaching and learning experience; and the course is designed using the Understanding by Design model and templates.
