Parent/Student Internet Viewer

When parents and students access the San Jose Unified Campus Portal website, they can view the attendance, assignments and grades for a student’s classes. If you never received yours, or misplaced it, contact one of the staff in the front office to receive the information.

How Parents Can Help

Communication is important to your child’s success. We -- teachers, parents, and students -- need to work together as a team for success.

You are welcome to visit the classroom at any time. Please feel free to contact your child's teacher or set up an appointment to discuss any concerns you might have. Please be sure to leave a phone number and best time for the teacher to call you back.

Please discuss homework assignments with your child. Set a time and place for your child to do his/her homework each evening. If your child is having a difficult time with math, encourage them to seek out help from their math teacher or the homework center.

Good ways to help

Talk about math in positive ways.
Find out what your child is studying in math.
Have high expectations for your child's math learning.
Encourage your child to use technology in mathematics.
Help you child see math everywhere in their (and your) world.
Set up a consistent time and place for homework.
Ask about math and homework daily. This will show your child that you believe math is important.

Helpful Questions to Ask Your Child

Here are a few things that might help you help your child.

If your child is not sure how to begin, ask...

Can you tell me what you know now? What facts do you have?
Can you show me example problems in you textbook or math notebook?
What do you need to find out? Can you estimate the answer?
How might you begin? What can you try first?
Can you make a drawing, diagram, or picture to get started?

While you child is working a problem, ask...

How can you organize your information? Will a list or table help?
What would happen if...? Show me what you did.
Can you explain the strategy you're using to solve this problem?
What could you do next? Do you see any patterns?

When your child finishes their homework, ask to see it and check...

Is it on a clean piece of paper? Is it neat?
Did they write their name, date, period, and assignment title?
Is it in pencil?
Did they show their work? Circle (or box) their answers?
