News of the Week
January 30 - February 3
Reading and writing focus: This week we have added call, funny, how, more, so, and there to our Word Wall Words. Our spelling words used the long ‘i’ sound. Our stories this week were about losing teeth, but we also read about groundhogs and shadows. We made predictions about what was going to happen in a story, and discussed the reasons for our predictions. We wrote about how we can use self-control and how we can be alert in school.
Math: We began Unit 5, Place Value, Number Stories, and Basic Facts. We learned a new problem solving strategy, Use or Make a Table. Please practice math facts with your child at every opportunity.
Science and Social Studies: We continue to observe and graph the weather. We read about the Groundhog’s Day tradition.
Reminder: next week is the 100th day. Please send in your 100 items on Monday; make
sure they are small enough so they will fit into a sandwich-sized baggie.
Thank you, as always, for your help and support! J
It helps the students with clean up if they have a napkin to put their snacks on. If you are able to send a cloth napkin with their snack it would reinforce our message of recycling and reusing. Thanks so much for all your help and support on this, as well as homework and helping your child stay organized and ready for school. :)
