What is Accelerated Reader?
Accelerated Reader is a computerized reading incentive program. Students may read books from the library, their classroom, or from home. Each book is assigned a point value depending on the difficulty and length of the book. Once the student completes the book, he or she can take a comprehension quiz on the computer. (Quizzes can only be taken at school.) Based on the percentage of correct answers, the student is awarded a number of points for each test completed. These points are then accrued throughout the year.
Through Accelerated Reader, we encourage our students to read more so that they become better readers and lifelong readers.
To take an AR Test:
Go to AR Renaissance Place
Want to find out if a particular book has an AR test?
Go to AR Book Finder.
Remember, if AR has a test for it, your child has access to that test at school.
You can search for book titles based on authors, topics, or titles of books. You can save titles to a book bag but once you log out, your information is lost. If you want to keep it, please print it out so you can reference it later.
You can view you child’s Accelerated Reader progress online.
Renaissance Home Connect is a tool that allows parents to log in to a Web site and view a snapshot of their child’s Accelerated Reader progress. That progress includes average percent correct on quizzes, number of points earned, and results on the last quiz. In addition, parents can view all the Accelerated Reader quizzes their child has taken, and can access an online search tool, AR Book Finder, to search for books using various criteria, including author, subject, or reading level. Parents also have the option to receive email notifications in English or Spanish when their child has completed an Accelerated Reader Quiz.
