2012 Conference Information

Link for Survey Monkey for those who attended the conference and want credit:

All the information below is no longer current as the conference has been held. It will remain posted for a few weeks before being "retired".

ONE MORE UPDATE! - If you happen to glance this way before Wednesday, February 8th, you'll want to take note that due to the numbers of folks who have indicated attendance, we will be using the largest room at the Holiday Inn - the Coliseum Room for Eustacia Cutler. With over 300 people attending, you won't want to be late! See you there!

UPDATE: Notice - we have a new sub-page that has a link so that you can start planning the mini-session presenters you'll want to hear. Good luck - they're all going to be great!

UPDATE: CEUs are anticipated for Speech Pathologists AND Audiologists . Keep checking back - updates regarding this will be more specific near the end of the month. UPDATE - GOOD NEWS! Approval has been granted for Social Workers!

UPDATE: If you haven't checked in a while, you may notice we've extended some of the time on Friday, February 10th. This is to enable a total of 17 contact hours to give the option of selecting/not selecting Wednesday evening's presentation from 7:00-9:00 to count toward those hours. If you are only able to attend Thursday and Friday, there will be enough contact hours to enable 1 Semester credit.

UPDATE: You may also notice there is another page promoting the open-to-the-public evening events. YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESERVE SEATING if you already have registered for the conference. You would have indicated attendance on the registration form. Having guests reserve seats for these two evenings helps us and the hotel with planning.

Spotlight on Exceptionalities

We are excited to present to you our agenda for the upcoming state NDCEC Conference, "Spotlight on Exceptionalities," being held in Minot, ND, at the Holiday Inn-Riverside.

The event opens on Wednesday night, February 8, 2012, with a welcome and presentation by Eustacia Cutler, mother of world-famous Temple Grandin. She will expound on the experiences of raising a child with Autism and give insight into her parenting journey. Read on!

 “Spotlight on Exceptionalities”

We are SO excited to be able to host the 2012 conference! Our state, and especially our city, just experienced a devastating flood that displaced over 12,000 residents. Despite that, we were able to extend a Magic City welcome to over 16,000 fans who attended the Black Eyed Peas Concert. Amazing! Can we do this conference? You bet we can! We are rising up and ready to rock! We’ll welcome you to our city as we rebuild and regroup! Check out what we’ve got going:

Eustacia Cutler – Mother of world-famous Temple Grandin who incidentally, has a North Dakota connection. Find out how this mother dealt with Autism from a parent perspective. Check out her book, A Thorn in My Pocket and you will be primed for a wonderful Wednesday opening event! She will also kick off the movie, “Temple Grandin” shown for your viewing pleasure on Thursday evening.  Bring on the popcorn!

Mark Shinn – For those of you who are going a different direction, Mark Shinn will explore ways that Special Educators can be involved meaningfully in the RTI process. If you are interested in evidence-based practices, multi-tier services and supports, coordinated early intervening services (aka RTI), scientifically based progress monitoring using Curriculum-Based Measurement (CBM), heads up for a great day on Thursday as he expounds on strategies to make this happen.

Mark Coppin – Want to learn more about IPADs, and how to use applications to help students? Mark Coppin, who is from our state’s own Anne Carlsen Center, Jamestown, ND, will give you practical hands-on time to hone those technology skills. You’ll be amazed as what you can do with these apps and how they can benefit your students.

Barbara Cirigliano- Barbara has been Principal of Willow Grove Kindergarten and Early Childhood Center in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, since it opened in 1999. She has led the way in implementation of a professional learning community. She and her staff have created systematic pyramids of interventions at the early childhood level. She will present on the role of special educators in the Professional Learning Communities and help to clarify our involvement in this process. You won’t want to miss this!

We are ready to roll out the red carpet for this spotlighting event! Get geared up for a fantastic experience!
