Writer’s Workshop:
As we wrap up the school year, the students are finishing thier letters to the future second graders as well as thier future 3rd grade teachers! We have also been working on a creative piece that incorporates some of our science unit on animal life cycles. The kids had to finish the thought: If I were a butterfly... They then colored the butterfly on the page and we attached a sticker of each child's face to complete the transformation of them into butterflies.
We have also been focusing as a group on paragraph writing. They are becoming quite the experts on many of the aspects of writing a paragraph such as indenting, writing a topic sentence, detail or supporting sentences, a wrap up or closing sentence and rereading their work to check for errors and to make sure it makes sense!
Reader’s Workshop: The guided reading groups are coming to a close. Each groups is either finished or near finshing and we are working on creating book reviews to share with the class as well preparing a "mini" book report. They have all done an incredible job with their reading and have made excelllent strides forward this year!
Spelling:
We have completed the spelling unit for the year and the kids are very excited! :)
Science/Social Studies:
Our science unit on animal life cycles has been going great! The kids seem to have a great deal of prior knowledge and love learning about animals! Our test for this unit will be on Tuesday morning June 8th.
Math:
Math is finished for second grade!!! The students completed their assessment on the multiplication unit yesterday. I am so proud of all of them and how enthusiastically they took on this new concept!
