4. Holiday Wishes

I wanted to take a minute to share an experience that I had with our Kindergarteners that I found quite extraordinary...As we have been talking and learning about holidays around the world we took some time to share our own families' traditions during the holidays. As we made a large list of ideas on the Smartboard like: hang stockings, bake cookies, sing Christmas carols, have a feast, spend time with family, decorate the house etc, Mrs. Miller and I noticed a word that was never mentioned...gifts. It was touching to see that these 5 and 6 year old children truly understood the meaning of the holidays and were thankful for all of the real gifts in life...the memories that they are creating each day with their families. What a remarkable group of kids! However your family may choose to celebrate, we wish you a happy holiday and best wishes in the new year!

5. Holiday Traditions

Thank you to everyone who put so much work into decorating their family traditions stockings. They look amazing! We are having so much fun spending time talking about our traditions here in the United States as well as some of the traditions from other countries. We are even lucky enough to have families from our own classroom teach our students about traditions from their culture. Thank you to all of you for making this a bright and cheerful holiday season!

6. The Giving Tree

blog photo We just wanted to thank all of our families for their donations to the soldiers overseas. Our class collected a great amount of goodies to send to our hometown hero. Thank you again for your generosity and for helping teach our little ones the importance of giving!

14. Just a "Little" Thank You

A great big thank you goes out to all of our chaperones that helped on our field trip to Lake Placid. Thank you also to the families that were willing to make the trip even without tickets to the sold out Stuart Little show. Our class loved the show and really enjoyed having lunch at a restaurant. It couldn't have been done so successfully without all of the helping hands! I think we showed Lake Placid what wonderful children we have at Bailey Avenue. We were really showing off our 4 Bees. Kudos to all of the Kindergarteners and their fabulous families!

15. LOST!

Our Reading Bag is missing! It was not returned a few weeks ago and unfortunately many of our leaders are missing their chance to bring it home and enjoy the books and activities. If you have our Reading Bag at home, PLEASE return it to school so we can continue to pass it on. Thanks for your help in our search!

17. Leprechaun Crossing!

You won't believe what happened to our classroom today! It appears that a leprechaun snuck into our room while all of the students were waiting in line. This morning all of our magic stones were on the ground leading into the bathroom, where the toilet water had turned green. He had also left gold in the pots at the end of everyone's rainbows that we made in the Art Center yesterday. Although we searched high and low, that sneaky leprechaun was nowhere to be found. Later in the day, when we returned from Book Exchange our room had been trashed, papers thrown everywhere, and chairs knocked over. Even after we sang our leprechaun song, we were unable to find the wee little irishman. I guess we aren't lucky enough to catch a leprechaun this year, but with the plans that have been created I think we might have a chance next year. Happy St. Patrick's Day! Erin go braugh!

20. Be Mine!

We will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Monday the 14th. Students are welcome to bring in valentines for their classmates, but please make sure there is one for every student. This week the students are writing their valentine list so they will have all of their friends' names if they choose to make valentines. The lists will be sent home as soon as they are done. I am looking forward to a great Valentine's Day filled with friendship and fun. Together is a wonderful place to be!

22. Voice Magic

We attended a very entertaining assembly today with a ventriloquist! The children loved the show so much that many of them made their own puppets and have been practicing the art of ventriloquism. Please take a few minutes to ask your child about the show today.

23. Recycled Art

Our Art Center is in need of some recycled materials that the children can use when creating their imaginative masterpieces. If you have any materials at home that you are considering throwing away or recycling, please send them to school with your child and we will use them in our Art Center. Some items might include, paper towel/toilet paper rolls, styrofoam, cardboard, cotton balls, packing peanuts, scraps of fabric, yarn, etc. Thank you so much for your help...one adult's trash, is another child's treasure!

24. SNEAKERS!

Please make sure your child has sneakers for phys ed days (Wednesday and Friday). It is unsafe for them to wear boots while playing games in the gym and it takes a great deal of their phys ed time to find a pair of borrowed sneakers to wear. You child is more than welcome to leave a pair of sneakers at school in their cubby so they are available whenever needed. Thank you for you help!

25. Oh Baby!

Please send a baby picture of your child to school before Friday, Jan 14th. We will be playing a fun guessing game with the pictures as we continue our unit about growing and changing. All pictures will be returned safely at the end of the next week. Please make sure the picture is labeled on the back in case it isn't so easy to guess. Thank you for your help!
