Kindergarten Curriculum

 

After Instruction the Students will be expected to:

Language Arts/Reading

  • Identify the letters of the alphabet.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of letter/sound association.
  • Identify and retell sequence of story events.
  • Recognize the association between spoken and written words.
  • Begin to read ag appropriate material.

Writing

  • Use left to right progression.
  • Write the letters of the alphabet.
  • Begin to use phonetic spelling.
  • Write a sentence using correct spacing, capitalization, and punctuation.

Speaking/Listening

  • Listen attentively.
  • Follow simple oral directions.
  • Recall, retell, and react to story content.
  • Participate in discussions around a common topic.

Mathematics

  • Count orally and recognize numbers.
  • Demonstrate one-to-one correspondence.
  • Use manipulatives to solve simple addition and subtraction problems.
  • Construct and extend two and three part patterns
  • Classify objects using one or two attributes.
  • Identify and know the value of the penny, nickel, and dime.
  • Tell time to the hour.
  • Identify basic two and three dimensional shapes.

Science

  • Describe, identify, and record an observed weather event.
  • Predict patterns of change in seasons.
  • Recognize that exercise, hygiene, and nutrition help keep a person healthy.
  • Identify sense organs and their functions.
  • Compare objects using the 5 senses.
  • Use proper playground safety.
  • Know when and how to call 911.
  • Investigate and sort objects which are, or or not, attracted to magnets.
  • Classify animals by habitat and body coverings.

Social Science

  • Recognize and demonstrate the reasons for rules.
  • Show beginning awareness of what it means to be a leader.
  • Show some awareness of time and how the past influences people's lives.
  • Become aware of local and national holidays.
  • Begin to understand how people rely on others for goods and services.
  • Express beginning geographic thinking (maps/models).

PE/Health

  • To be able to perform the following skills during physical activity:
    • Walk
    • Run
    • Hop
    • Skip
    • Leap
    • Jump
