Mrs. Wells' Class

Dear Parents/Guardians,

My name is Diane Wells, and I am so excited to be your child’s kindergarten teacher this year!  I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1994 with my certification to teach pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.  I have been teaching for 20 and ½ years, with experience in the following grades: Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade.  I am married to my husband, Rob, and we have two sons, Caleb and Josiah (along with chickens and rabbits!).  My favorite things to do are to spend time playing with my children, reading, teaching Sunday school, baking, swimming, gardening, and having fun!

Kindergarten is a time of new beginnings, of making friends, and of learning lots of new things each and every day.  Our days will be filled with many wonderful experiences and opportunities for learning and growing.

We will learn all about letters and sounds, and we will be doing lots of writing activities, too.  We will also be learning all about numbers, building on important math concepts including sorting, counting, graphing, classifying, patterns, time, money, measurement, addition, and subtraction.  Additionally, we will be learning many literacy and comprehension skills.  The children are always proud of the work they create and are anxious to share their new skills.

Families can help at home by reading to, and with, their child daily, and encouraging them to write and draw.  Play is also very important in a young child’s life.  Research has proven that young children learn as they play, and their play is their work.  In this context, your child will be learning every day as he or she completes academic tasks and participates in play-based activities.

Throughout the year, we will be in need of all kinds of materials to complete our projects.  Please check our Items Needed section of my weekly newsletter sent home every Friday in your child’s folder and found on my web page on Little Pearl’s web site.  This is optional, but very helpful as we do not receive funding for these ‘extra’ special activities that make our days ‘extra’ special!

I believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for school success.  Throughout the year I will communicate with you through notes, telephone calls, newsletters, report cards, and parent-teacher conferences.  I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time.  Please feel free to call me at school and leave a message (985-863-5906), send me a note or email me at diane.wells@stpsb.org.  I am looking forward to a wonderful year with you and your child!

Respectfully,

Diane Wells
