Home School Connections
Reading:
Read to your child every night.
Ask your child open ended questions such as:
* Who was in the story?
* What would have happened if _____ ?
* Is this a real or fake story?
* Draw a picture of your favorite part?
 
Writing:
Writing is so much fun for young children.
* Practice writing his/her name.
* Write some letters or numbers.
* Write some words.
* Go for a walk and write the signs that you see.

Cutting:
Cutting is a skill that involves eye-hand coordination.  
* Practice opening and closing the scissor.  
* Give your child flyers or magazines to cut out different pictures.
* Have your child draw a picture and use the scissor to cut it out.
* Make sure your child is looking at what he/she is cutting.  Additionally make sure your child is holding the scissor with one hand and holding the paper with another.  

Counting
* Practice counting orally from 0-10. 
* Say a number and see if your child can show you how many fingers that is.
* Gather some toys or things in the house and count how many objects you have.
* Get a deck of cards and play 'Go Fish.'
* If you have dominos you can count how many dots are on each of the dominos.
