Home School Connections Reading: Read to your child every night. Ask your child open ended questions such as: * Who was in the story? * What would have happened if _____ ? * Is this a real or fake story? * Draw a picture of your favorite part? Writing is so much fun for young children. * Practice writing his/her name. * Write some letters or numbers. * Write some words. * Go for a walk and write the signs that you see. Cutting: Cutting is a skill that involves eye-hand coordination. * Practice opening and closing the scissor. * Give your child flyers or magazines to cut out different pictures. * Have your child draw a picture and use the scissor to cut it out. * Make sure your child is looking at what he/she is cutting. Additionally make sure your child is holding the scissor with one hand and holding the paper with another. Counting: * Practice counting orally from 0-10. * Say a number and see if your child can show you how many fingers that is. * Gather some toys or things in the house and count how many objects you have. * Get a deck of cards and play 'Go Fish.' * If you have dominos you can count how many dots are on each of the dominos.
