Writing News

We have come to the end of the next unit in our Treasures program.  In this unit, our focus was on writing a "How-To" piece of writing.  We wrote about how to take care of a pet, and how to cook a turkey.  I hope you enjoyed your child's "How to Cook a Turkey" piece that was sent home.  We are now currently working on our final Writing Prompt, which is explaining in detail and using the signal words (first, next, then, after that, and last) to write about "How to Make a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich."

As part of our "Treasures" Language Arts program, each unit we focus on a particular type of writing.  The focus of our first unit will be writing a "Personal Narrative."  We are preparing for this type of writing by working on mini-lessons in our language arts block.  Students recently wrote about a special friend in their journals.  We first made a "character web" in order to organize our thoughts about our friend (what they look like, traits they possess, etc...)   Students enjoy sharing their writing with the class by using the "Elmo"  (document camera).
