Spelling/Word Work

Word Work in First Grade
Each week the students will work with and learn 5 new core spelling words (5 challenge words will also be offered that reinforce a particular spelling pattern or blend.) These words will be introduced on Monday and sent home in the Tic Tac Homework packet to practice at home. Students will engage in different phonics and word building activities each day that focus on the spelling patterns of the new words. Depending on the unit, more than one week will be spent learning the words. At the end of the week, the spelling words will be "graduated" to the word wall where they will stay as a spelling resource for the students to use throughout the year.
