Spelling Activity Ideas:

*Write the words on sandpaper/sand/rice

*Write words in the tub/shower using soap or shaving cream

*Write the words on the carpet with your fingers

*Spell out words with your body

*Do a cheerleader chant (Give me an ‘A’…..’A’)

*Spell words with magnetic letters

*Trace letters with different colors (‘rainbow’ write)

*Make words out of Play-Doh

*Spell words with Wikki sticks, Bendaroos, or pipe cleaners

*Create a riddle or joke about a word (example: I am a four letter word that means a big boat. Answer: ship)

*Create a list of words that rhyme with your spelling words

*Spell words using letter tiles

*Make a dictionary using spelling words and add new words each week

*Unscramble a sentence that uses several spelling words

*Complete sentences by filling in the blank with a spelling word

*Write your words from easiest to spell to hardest to spell

*Write your words using paint

*Make your words out of beans, cereal bits, or glue and glitter

*Do jumping jacks, jump rope, clap, etc. as you spell each word

*Create a paper chain of your words

*Make two sets of flash cards with your words and play Memory

*Play ‘Go Fish’ using flash cards of your spelling words

*Write your words on special paper
