My 1st graders have just finished performing two plays:  The Little Red Hen and The Crow's Potlatch.  These Reader's Theatre plays provide practice in reading orally, using expression to convey meaning, and promote confidence in public speaking.  They are also effective instruments for introducing new vocabulary, idioms, and figures of speech.  The students enjoyed performing for the Kindergarten and 1st grade classes. 

The first week of February is introduction to non-fiction books.  Each student will read a non-fiction book, prepare a short script about the book and produce a podcast.  This project reinforces reading and writing skills.  The technology part is just plain fun!  Podcasts can be emailed to parents, downloaded to iPods and enjoyed.
