Library Policies Policies and Procedures

I  Hours
  •  Students come to the library weekly with their classes and may use the library as needed throughout the day.  There is open checkout before school from 8:50 - 9:15 each morning and 3:00 - 3:15 each afternoon.  Additional times throughout the day may be available for checkout - whenever library staff is available. Unless they are coming with their class, students should first check in with their teachers before coming to the library.
II Checking Out Books
  • All students are eligible for checkout unless they have lost or damaged materials.  Borrowing privileges may be limited or curtailed until the missing materials are returned or replaced.
  • Kindergarten students may check out one book initially and then increase to two books by end of October.  First and second graders may check out two books.  Third through fifth graders are allowed to check out three books.  For special requests or projects, students may request additional materials from the library staff.
  • Books circulate typically for one week.  The due date is one week from the date of checkout.  Students are welcome to return books any day of the week and to get new materials.  Most materials may be renewed for a second week.
  • Family members are welcome to check out books and materials from the library.
III  Overdue Books
  • When books are seriously overdue, notices are printed and sent to the student's classroom to be distributed.  If the books are not returned, notices are sent to the parents.
  • No fines are issued for overdue materials.
IV  Lost or Damaged Books
  • Students or their families are responsible for paying for replacement cost of any book lost or significantly damaged.  In some cases, the library will accept a replacement copy of the lost item instead of monetary means.
  • Damaged books should be brought to the library for repair.  Please do not repair books at home.
  • Students with overdue or lost books at the end of the year will have their report cards held until items are returned or compensation is received.
