Welcome to Centennial's Battle of the Books!
|
|
Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program offered to 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students at Centennial Elementary. The goals of this program are to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, broaden reading interest, increase reading comprehension, and promote academic excellence. It is also fun!
This is an extracurricular activity for Centennial students which takes place before school during February and March. Students organize their teams (sometimes with the help of teachers) and decide which books each will read from a list of fifteen books to prepare themselves to answer questions based on the details within the story. Practice dates for each grade level are listed below. The last practice date for each grade level actually determines the final three teams from each grade level that will compete in the final Battle of the Books Championship.
Practice dates for 3rd grade: Mondays from 8:00 to 8:50 a.m. on February 1, 8, 22 and March 1, 2010.
Practice dates for 4th grade: Tuesdays from 8:00 to 8:50 a.m. on February 2, 9, 16, and 23, 2010.
