The purpose of this blog is to provide you with information from class. If you are absent, look to this blog for assignments, notes, and due dates. Use this resource!

This is group work that will be done on Monday and Tuesday. I also assigned homework. I don't have the exact page numbers but the first one is the practice on adjectives (I think page 319?).
Direct object -- noun or pronoun that receives the action. Must come after an action verb.

Ex. The captain rang the bell.

S- captain

V- rang (because there's a DO, it's a transitive verb)

DO- bell

Ex 2. The bell rang loudly.

S- bell

V- rang

no Direct Object

Indirect Object -- Receives the direct object, must come with a direct object.

I gave my students progress reports.

S- I

V- gave

DO - progress reports

IO- students

Predicate Nominative -- comes after LV, it's another name for the subject.

My teacher is Mrs. McDermott

S- teacher

LV- is

PN- Mrs. McDermott (it's another name for teacher)

Predicate Adjective -- comes after LV, it describes the subject.

I am amazing.

S- I

LV- am

PA- amazing (describes the subject)

Binder check information:

-Keep ALL papers I give you

-Keep ALL notes

-You need 10 SSR logs (1 log, 10 dates) -- this means you'll need to do some on your own.

-You need a personal word wall

This binder counts as a test grade and will be checked at the end of the quarter.

On Thursday, I showed students how to format the essay in Microsoft Word. Here are some things to remember:

12 point font

Times New Roman

Double Spacing

1 inch margins (they're set in Office 2007, so if you have that version, ignore this!)

Spacing after each paragraph should be set to 0pt (this option can be selected under paragraph on the home tab).

You should insert a header by clicking insert --> page number --> top of page --> plain number 3 ... then you type your last name before the number. Make sure to change that font to Times New Roman and 12 point also.

Close out of the header and at the top of the page write the following:

Your name

Teacher's name

Class title

Date

                                                 Title

Save it to your U: drive and make sure you change the title!

407932

12/5/11

Today, students continued typing up their rough drafts.

408307

12/6-7/11

Students are still working on their rough drafts. Due date is Friday!

408793

12/9/11

Deadline for the rough drafts were today. Students finished working on them in class. I also distributed Vocab Unit 2 for homework.

409984

12/12-14/11

Students are finishing their rough draft revisions and beginning their peer editing. After the peer editing, students will make changes and print out a final copy.

410763

12/15/11

Students finished up their essays today. 5th period created online accounts for their lit books and they handed in their Writing Coach books.

411397

12/19-20/11

Students that had to finish their essays were allowed to work on them during class. Today is the last day in class that they will have to work on them. They're still due Dec 21st.
