It is a pleasure to have your child in my math class this year. I have been teaching math in the San José Unified School District since 1995. California Polytechnic State University, (Cal Poly) SLO, and National Hispanic University, have been the colleges that I have attended to receive my Math degree and credentials. This year I will be using the San José Unified School District’s adopted math textbooks published by Holt. Students will be issued a textbook to be kept at home in his/her study center. I will be using the text to present the California Mathematics Standards to my students. These standards will be presented daily in class and will be reflected in homework assignments as we go through the text. Your child is bringing home a brief outline about my math class. This outline includes my philosophy, grading procedures, class rules, and parent contact information. We will be hosting Back-to-School Night here at Muir on Wednesday, August 31st. Your child will be bringing a note home from school with all of the details about this event. At Back-to-School Night I will discuss more about student expectations, grading, and address any questions you may have. I look forward to meeting you at that time. If you have any questions or concerns, please call me during the hour of 2:15-3:15 pm, or send me an e-mail message.
Sincerely, Christina Maciel Math Teacher Christina_Maciel@sjusd.org
