Language Arts: To end our school year, students will be reading books from the science fiction genre. We will be focusing on the many reading strategies we have learned this year while reading our books and completing assignments.
On Fridays, we will delve into poetry! With poetry readings, and learning how to write poetry we will have quite a collection by the end of the year!
Reading logs are due on Mondays. Returning their completed reading log is an important part of their homework grade, so please continue to encourage your child to return them to school.
Science with Mrs. Gast:
To end our school year we will be studying body systems. Students will learn the basic functions of skeletal, muscular, digestive, respiratory, circulatory and reproductive systems.
The reproductive health unit will begin by showing students the DVD, "Just Around the Corner for Boys/Girls." Students will be separated by gender for these films. The remainder of the unit will be taught together in science class. Please look for your child's reproductive packet to come home. This handout opens the door for discussion with your child.
Social Studies with Mrs. Rettig
In chapter 10 historians will compare the tense relationship between the colonies and Great Britain before the American Revolution to a strained relationship between a parent and a child. In the preview, historians will discuss an instance in which an adult has given them an order. In an experiential exercise, students plan a class party but then experience frustration when the PTA places restrictions on the party. Historians will relate their feelings to those of the colonists and then match metaphors of a parent-child conflict with key historical events.
Math with Mrs. Marlow The end is near! We have two units we will complete before the end of they year. We are currently studying geometry where we are measuring angles, finding unknown angles in given shapes and figures, and learning about polygons. Our final unit will be area and perimeter. This is a fun, interactive unit and a great way to end our year of math! Continued practice on those **Remember, if your child has finished their homework, some time spent practicing a similar skill on www.ixl.com would be a great use of time!
