Objective: The students will be able to understand the foundations and history of democratic governments.
Warm-up: Copy down the agenda for the week. Activity: Notes over Greek Governments (Oligarchy, Democracy, Monarchy, and Tyranny). Students will be broken into groups and assigned a government and respond to questions from PowerPoint. This can be due/presented Tuesday.
Continue with "Learning About the Roots of Democracy" (if necessary) 1) Students will read information over Democracy, Monarchy, Oligarchy, and Tyranny on their own, answering specific questions about each. 2) Student questions will include the following information over their assigned government: a) name of government type -

Objective: Students will be able to compare and contrast the Greek City-States of Sparta and Athens. Warm-up: Students will be divided into "expert" groups, dependent on which governments they studied yesterday.
Activity:
Compare Spartans and Athenians (students can construct a Venn-D) using half sheets of information about the lives of the two groups. They can look for the different types of government, lives of men and women, education, what it meant to be a good citizen.

Objective: The students will be learning about Ancient Greece and their impact on how government operates. Warm-up: Read chapter 10, section 2 in the textbook.
Activity: 1) Students will work on Guided Reading for chapter 10, section 2 in their textbooks (Ancient Greece). Guided reading pages will be glued in ISNs. 2) Students will continue working on their posters for "Learning About the Roots of Democracy," which are due tomorrow for a daily grade.

Objective: The students will appreciate products of their peers through viewing the poster gallery. Warm-up: Students will turn in their "Learning About the Roots of Democracy" posters, for a daily grade. -
Activity: Students will turn the classroom into a gallery with their finished posters. Students will have questions to answer while viewing the posters on the "Roots of Democracy."

Objective: Students will learn about the significance of ancient Rome. Warm-Up:
The early Romans lived by a few simple values, including justice, honesty, valor, and loyalty to family and country. Do you think these values are important today in the United States? Why or why not? Activity: Students will take notes from a powerpoint presentation over Ancient Rome (note page will be glued in ISN).
Begin Dark Ages Notes. Wrap-Up:
