Basketball Philosophy

Chip Flemmer's Basketball Program Philosophy Overall Program Goals 1. We will be competitive at all levels. 2. We will display self-control, self-confidence, pride, teamwork, and courtesy in practice and in competition. 3. We will strive to reach our full potential. 4. We will work to be successful in the classroom and other areas of our lives. 5. We will prepare the highly-skilled athlete to continue athletic participation on the college level. High School Varsity - Fundamentals!
- Winning the district title each year.
- Developing young basketball players in the hopes that some of them will move on to the next level.
- Squeezing every ounce of talent out of all of our players.
- Intense team, man-man defense. We will play a zone defense if it becomes necessary for match-up purposes.
- We will play a tight man to man defense as well as a sagging man to man.
- Press whenever we can.
- Talk on defense. "Screen" "Stick" "Ball" "SHOT"
- "One and done" we will box-out and outrebound our opponents every game.
- Hustle on every play. Outwork everyone.
- Set great screens and come off of screens effectively.
- Excel with our basic, modified motion offense.
- On and off the court, we will represent our school, program, family, and community with pride, honor, and integrity.
- Move without the ball.
- Learn good low-post moves (drop step, power dribble, up and under).
- Demonstrate good sportsmanship win or lose.
- Become complete players that can pass, dribble, play defense, shoot, rebound, etc.
- Continue to develop shooting skills.
- Work toward shooting our free throws at 75% or better.
- Be able to make lays-ups with both your left and right hands (jumping off the correct foot).
- Be able to dribble with both your left and right hands.
- You are a part of the high school program. We are representing our entire program and community.
Junior Varsity & Freshman - Fundamentals!
- We are going after wins.
- Intense team, man-man defense. We will play a zone, if necessary.
- Press the fire out of the opponents (if we have the athletes to do so).
- Talk on defense.
- "One and done" we will box-out, outrebound our opponents.
- Hustle on every play. Outwork everyone.
- Set good screens and come off of screens effectively.
- Develop our modified motion offense into a fine-tuned machine.
- Move without the ball.
- Continue improving with our good low post moves (drop step, power dribble, up and under).
- Demonstrate good sportsmanship win or lose.
- Become complete players that can pass, dribble, play defense, shoot, rebound, etc.
- Continue to develop shooting skills.
- Work towards hitting 75% of your free throws or better.
- Be able to make lays-ups with both your left and right hands (jumping off the correct foot).
- Be able to dribble with both your left and right hands without looking down.
- You are a part of the varsity program, you are just not there yet. Attend high school varsity games whenever you can because we want you there since you are a part of us.
- Team over self.
Middle School - Fundamentals! Wins are desired, but growing and developing as basketball players is our primary goal.

Elementary AAU, Youth Leagues, Recreational Basketball - This is where you lay the foundation for your program.
- We will stress fundamentals and not wins and losses.
- We want our players to be able to dribble with both their left and right hands.
- Learn to make nice crisp chest, bounce, and over-the-head passes.
- Learn pivot drills with and without basketball.
- Teach boxing out.
- Learn the basics of man to man defense (i.e. stay between your man and the basket, play "D" by moving your feet and not reaching/lunging, talk on defense and help your teammates).
- Good sportsmanship whether we win or lose.
- Fundamental shooting drills.
- You are a part of the high school program; you are just not there yet. Attend high school games whenever you can because we want you there since you are a part of us.
