When can I visit the library?

The library is open Monday-Friday from 7:30am - 3:15pm.

Our library operates on a flexible schedule which means--no more waiting until library day--students can come to the library whenever they want or need! Teachers can schedule lessons on information literacy skills that go with what is being taught in the classroom. Small groups, individuals and classes can all visit the library at the same time, any time, for reading or research.

Teachers should consult the Library Calendar to view events and select times to visit the library with their class.

How many books can I check out?

It depends...
Kindergarten students = one book
1st-5th graders = two books**
Parents = two books and two audio books per child

If there is a special assignment in class, students may be allowed to check out extra items.  Books can and should go home to read with family each night.

When are books due?

All books are due when you have read them through! Some students choose long books that take a couple of weeks to read, other students like shorter books that may only take a day or two to read. Please return books as soon as you are finished, since others may be waiting to read them.

The computer marks all items overdue that are kept out for more than two weeks. If you would like to keep any items longer than two weeks please come to the library to renew them. The library does not charge fines for overdue items.

What happens if an item from the library is lost or damaged?

Lost books must be paid for in order to clear student records and allow them to check out another book. Students will be asked to send money for lost and damaged items depending on the repair or replacement cost. Cash or money orders payable to "Bright Elementary" are accepted for payment.

What reading programs does the library sponsor?

Special reading encouragement programs are offered throughout the year for all students. Visit the Activities and Downloads page of this site for more information on the Bluebonnet Club, Genre Passports, and more!  The library also runs two book fairs with PTA in September and February.

What do students learn in the library?

Research shows that children learn best when they can access information at the point-of-need. Our library program is an extension of the classroom and information skills are taught within the context of the classroom curriculum. All students in kindergarten through 5th grade participate in research units planned cooperatively with teachers and the librarian to learn library skills as they are learn curriculum-related information. This integration strengthens the teaching and learning process allowing students to develop the skills necessary to locate, analyze, evaluate, interpret, and communicate information and ideas.

Who works in the library?

This is Mrs. Garavaglia's first year as librarian at Bright Elementary. In May of 2011, she will earn her masters degree in library science from Texas Woman's Universty. Mrs. "G" has taught for the last twelve years, ten of those here in Frisco. Before moving to Texas, she graduated from Oklahoma State Univeristy, earning a degree in Elementary Education. Becoming a librarian gets to combine her two loves: teaching and reading.

Mrs. Green has been the library aide at Bright since 2007 and loves working with kids! See her soon for help finding the perfect book.

How can parents get involved?

The library is always looking for volunteers! Contact Mrs. Garavaglia if you would like to help on a regular basis with shelving, book repair, or creating displays. Look for opportunities to help with special events, such as Book Fair, through our PTA.

Don't forget - parents can check out books too! We have a special parenting section of the library with great books to choose from or select a favorite children's book to share with your student. In addition, the Frisco Public Library offers weekly programs for parents and children to attend.

What should I do if I have a question?

Please ask! Email Mrs. Garavaglia or stop by the library. Comments and ideas are always appreciated. If you have an idea for a great book for the library to purchase submit a suggestion form online.
