The PTO is looking for chairs for the following committees for the 2017-2018 school year:
Holiday Workshop (December) - This program provides a leadership opportunity for our 5th grade students. Held in early December, this event provides all Breton Downs students with a ½ day of craft/gift making and entertainment, as well as a community service component. Volunteers are needed to help prepare for the workshop, set-up, supervise and/or assist with craft making the day of the event, or clean-up. (1-2 meetings in fall/winter & event day)
Publishing Center (winter) - The Publishing Center produces books written by Breton Downs students in grades 1-5. Parent volunteers can help on a weekly basis interviewing students and assembling books at lunchtime, or typing at home. (November - March) Siblings welcome!
If you would like to help with either of these groups please contact Venta Norris at email@example.com or 440-655- 0855.

Please keep cutting and saving Box Tops! There will be a collection in October. Also please keep saving receipts from D&W, Forest Hills Foods, and Family Fare. We received $1,000 last year through their Direct your Dollars program! Receipts can be turned in at the main office.

Note from Dr. Cannon
September 11, 2017
Dear Breton Downs Families,
Welcome Back! I hope you and your family had a wonderful summer vacation. As we head into the first full week of school, it is important to review and remind our children of important safety precautions. Please review these safety reminders with your child(ren).
Remember to always try and walk with other students on the way to school and home.
Please cross at intersections that have our safeties or crossing guards. Adult crossing guards will be located on the corners of Boston/York and Boston/Breton from 7:50- 8:20 a.m. and 3:15- 3:45 p.m. to help our students cross these streets safely.
Students should not be walking across parking lots. Please use the sidewalks.
Students should line-up at their assigned door before school at 8:10 a.m.
It is important to wear a helmet if you are riding your bike or scooter.
When on school property, please walk your bike or scooter.
Remember to always look both ways before crossing a street.
Never approach a car that you don’t recognize and never go with a stranger or accept anything from a stranger.
As a reminder to parents, our first bell rings at 8:15 a.m. and students will be entering the building at this time. Any student who arrives after this time should enter the building through door #1. Please do not knock on doors to ask our safeties or students to open them. They have been instructed not to open locked doors to anyone. Also, we ask parents not to pull in or park in our back parking lot located near the tennis courts before school or after school. We want to keep all of our students safe.
We all love our pets, but they do not belong at school. Too many young children are allergic or frightened by them. When walking your child to school or picking up your child after school, please do not bring your dog onto school property.
We will be having the Breton Downs Welcome Back Family Picnic on Friday, September 22 during lunch time (11:24 a.m. - 12:10 p.m.). Families are invited to join their children and enjoy a picnic lunch from Grand Rapids Food Service. The meal includes a hot dog, watermelon, carrots, baked beans, sun chips, and milk. Adults and siblings will NOT be able to use a student’s account to pay for lunch. Cash only for adults ($4.70/meal) and siblings ($3.50/meal). If you are interested in purchasing a lunch, please sign-up here. Students and families will be served lunch in the gym and if your child would prefer a lunch from home, please plan on packing one for him/her. Parents are encouraged to bring blankets to sit on outside. As always, we will be emphasizing that our students eat first and then play. We want to make sure they have energy for the afternoon! If it rains, the picnic will be held inside the main gym.
If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at email@example.com. I look forward to another fantastic school year!
