RUNNING CLUB

It's time again for the Breton Downs Running Club!  The purpose of running club is to get students moving, encourage a "healthy" competition among classes (the winner gets an extra gym class with Mr. Putnam) and is a fun lead-up to the LBW race. Students who choose to participate will run laps around the building during recess, collecting punches on a card for a fun prize!  Tuesdays will be double punch days, so be sure to check each week's Breton Beat for Tuesday's theme.

We need parent volunteers to make this possible.  Running club will take place this year beginning on Tuesday, April 11 and ending with a healthy snack celebration (a favorite for the kids!) on Wednesday, May 31.  Volunteers will punch cards during afternoon recess on Mondays and Thursdays and morning recess on Tuesdays and Fridays.  This is a quick way to be involved and cheer on our students!

LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE - TOWN HALL MEETING MONDAY, APRIL 24

Please save the date! On Monday, April 24th, we are hosting a town hall meeting at the EGR High School Little Auditorium from 5:30 pm - 7 pm. Several state legislators will be there to discuss education issues and answer your questions. We will also be highlighting the importance of the proposed Enhancement Millage -- voting on the May 2 ballot -- which would provide an additional $211/student in operational funding for the next 10 years. Details to follow.

The EGR Legislative Committee keeps parents informed about important developments in Lansing that directly impact our kids in school. All are invited to attend the Legislative Committee's monthly meetings. The next meeting is Wednesday, March 8 at 8:30 AM at Woodcliff. If you would like to stay informed and advocate for our kids’ education, please join our FB group and sign up for email and text updates: https://www.facebook.com/groups/136269413096358/.  If you have any difficulty signing up, please contact Lucy Shair at ljshair@gmail.com

Weekly Note from Dr. Cannon:

March 20, 2017

Dear Breton Downs Families,

Last week’s production of Willy Wonka, Jr. was wonderful and I was so impressed with our students. They memorized lines, learned songs and dance steps, and should be very proud of their participation and effort.  Mrs. Timmer and the many parent volunteers worked countless hours to prepare for the three performances. Many thanks to everyone for their efforts.  Please see the picture below of Willy Wonka, Jr.

We have many lost and found items.  Please stop by the tables located outside the main office to see the gloves, sweatshirts, coats, and water bottles that need to be found.  We also have the lost and found items from Willy Wonka, Jr. Items that are not claimed by Friday, March 31 will be donated.

We all love our pets, but they do not belong at school. Too many young children are either allergic or frightened by them.  When walking your child to school or picking them up, please do not bring your dog on school property.  Thank you for your understanding.

Upcoming Events:

On Wednesday, March 22 our 4th and 5th grade choir will be featured in the Melodies in March concert at the high school Performing Arts Center.

Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, March 23 and Tuesday, March 28.  This is a wonderful time to discuss your child’s progress and areas of growth with the classroom teacher.

No school- Friday, March 31- Friday, April 7- Spring Break.  We will resume classes on Monday, April 10.

Warmest regards,

Dr. Cannon
