The Great American Mail Race is a project in which students “race” to get letters across the country to as many different states as possible before the end of the school year. This ongoing activity reinforces letter writing skills, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure, as well as map skills in a fun and interesting way!
Students used a map and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) website to choose two states/schools that they thought they would like to contact. Together as a class, we brainstormed about Hershey’s economy, natural resources, and recreational opportunities. As a group, we decided which of these things we wanted to “showcase” to the classes we wanted to contact. Then we wrote letters telling about ourselves, our school (HersheyChristianSchool), and about Hershey, PA.
Envelopes were addressed to the schools we found with "Attention: ## Grade Class". We used the following website to find schools:
