Brent Urban urbanbd@d11.org 719-328-3742 Spanish 2nd Year, 4th Year, and 5th Year Class Rules and Expectations: Welcome to my class. All of my classes are either college preparation classes or college level classes. Therefore I teach the classes as such and give my students great trust and responsibility. I only have one overarching rule in my class which is to act with integrity. That is to do the best of your ability always, do the right thing, and give your best effort in class. In turn, I will do the same. I never ask of my students what I am not willing to do myself. The goal of our class is not only to develop a level of proficiency or fluency in all aspects of the language, but also to connect with the various communities of Spanish speakers around the world. Spanish is not simply a set of rules in grammar or even merely a language, but rather it is an opportunity for you to connect and experience a greater part of the world both in your community and globally. Now the specifics: - Arrive on time prepared and ready to participate
- Communicate clearly with me when you are going to be gone and need specific assistance
- Homework and study assignments are helpful and are worth credit. They will be turned in as a packet on the day of the test. You are responsible to stay organized and arrive with all the activities ready to be turned in
- These are college level classes, so thorough notes will be taken and turned in for credit on the day of the test.
- When you are absent, it is your responsibility to check with your partner and the website about missing assignments and materials
- Late work turned in to me is 50% off
- Flash Cards and study sheets can be done for extra credit
- Current events may be presented in class for extra credit
- Once a quarter, a quarterly extra credit project may be done in agreement with student and teacher
- Electronic Devices may be used for class purposes with the permission of the teacher.
A standard grading system is used in my class. 90%-100%=A, 80%-89%=B, 70%-79%=C, 60%-69%=D, 59% or below = F. Grades are comprised by the following: participation (daily assignments) tests, quizzes, projects, homework, and class notes. Naturally, as a college preparatory class, tests are the greatest factor in the grade. Tests account for roughly 30% of the grade. Quizzes are roughly 20%. Homework and notes are roughly 15%. Projects are roughly 15% and Final exams are 20%. Grades will be updated and can be reviewed on Zangle. If you should have any further questions, don't hesitate to contact me. Brent Urban
