Course: We will work on reading, writing, and special skills needed in general adult life and in the business and work world.
v Short stories- We will read short stories, discuss them, and answer questions. Many of these stories will deal with real life situations.
v Accelerated Reader- This is a program we have here at Benton Community. The students are able to go to the IMC and pick out a book that interests them, and once they have completed it, they can take a short quiz to check on comprehension.
v Writing activities- We will do a variety of writing activities that will help the students improve their writing skills and also improve their typing skills. We will do free writing or research topics and write about them.
v Daily Journal- We will write about various journal topics selected by the teacher. The topics will explore many different things, and give the students a chance to really think and be creative.
v Spelling- Each week we will have a spelling list. During the week we will do a variety of spelling activities to practice the word lists. There will be a post test on Fridays.
v Daily Oral Language- We will also do DOL to practice grammar, punctuation, and commonly missed errors.
Portfolios-Each student has their own portfolio filled with personal information, job information, information for the future, etc. The main focus of these portfolios is to get the students thinking about their future and to begin to prepare themselves
