Welcome to fifth grade!In looking back on all of my years in school, fifth grade was truly one of my favorites. First of all, I had a wonderful teacher – Ms. Sweness. I also remember how special it felt to be the oldest in the school. Being the oldest means that there are lots of faces looking up to you, not only in school, but also on the playground. We’ll talk more about what a unique responsibility this is and how we can set an example for others.
Fifth grade is also a special year because you will learn many new things. For example, this year we will examine cells under a microscope, design an Ancient Egyptian sarcophagus, investigate the mystery of a missing author, and exclaim, “Eureka!” as we discover new math strategies. We have lots to accomplish and I hope you are as excited about the school year as I am.
To prepare for our first day together, you do not need to purchase supplies.Rather, I will be distributing the materials you need for the school year.Instead, please plan on bringing a picture or two of you and your family.We will use these as we get to know each other.Also, please bring the chapter book you are currently reading.I look forward to hearing about some of the books you read this summer.
