5th period Humanitarian project:  I encouraged each student last week to find an empty shoe box and fill with small items for a child somewhere in the world for the holiday season.  I suggested items that kids in the poorest parts of the world would need:  small soaps, school supplies, small toys (new), and toothpaste and stuff.  I will collect these the week before Thanksgiving. 

We learned that everyday, because of extreme poverty in the world, around 26, 500 children die of hunger, preventable illnesses, and sanitation issues (World Vision statistics, UNICEF statistics).
