1. The Third World I don't know how many of you know what the term "third world" means. The Third World are countries that are underdeveloped and suffer from massive poverty. Some examples would be Sudan, Somalia, and Cambodia. These countries, like most of the people in the world anyway, live per day on what we spend at the snack machines during third period! 43% of these people live without basic sanitation, 18% live without a well for water, 7% can read or write their own language, and live on less than $1 per day! Wow. FACT: If you keep your food in a refrigerator, your clothes in a closet, sleep in your own bed, and have a roof over your head, you are RICHER than 75% of the world. (That's 4.5 billion people) So, I would your ideas on what we can do, as Americans, to help out our world. We are all human. I think that means we are all in this life together then. I will welcome parent comments as well. Check out the link to the miniature Earth Project. ( http://www.miniature-earth.com/me_english.htm) It is a scenario of what it would be like, using current population numbers, if the world population were 100 people. It is really cool. -Mr.Karnes posted 9/15/2009 2:24 PM | comment | view comments (4) |
