Welcome to 6th Grade!

Mr. Flynn

Math and Science

I am so excited to be teaching 6th grade Math and Science again this year. We are off to a great start and I'm looking forward to helping all students achieve excellence and success.

My goal is to make the website not just a tool for me, as the teacher, to connect with parents, but also a learning tool and resource for the students.

Class Expectations and Procedures

 I.Classroom Environment

II.  Responsibility

  • Keep a neat and accurate agenda on a daily basis

  • Check and utilize “Homework online” link on the Island Trees MMS website

  • Have required materials in school daily

  • Make up any unfinished classwork, projects, or tests

  • Attend “extra help” sessions

III. Grading

  • Check Parent Portal

  • General Breakdown:


    70 %    Tests, quizzes, major assignments

    20 %    Classwork, minor assignments

                 (group work), effort, participation

    10 %    Homework

 IV. Extra Help Session

  • Tuesday and Thursday afternoons (2:35-3:15)

 V. Math Overview

  • Student login  - username and password

  • GO MATH assignments

  • CORE learning standards


  • spiral review, skills, strategies, problem solving, HW, tests, and quizzes

  • neatness and organization- essential for success

VI. Science Overview

  • Ecology – environment, cycles in Nature, Greenkill trip

  • Earth Science- rocks and minerals, earth’s layers, earthquakes, volcanoes

  • Matter- basic properties, reactions, measurement

  • Scientific Method – science experiment projects and research papers, science fair

 VII:  Communication is “KEY”

  • Please contact me at any time via email or telephone

  • Encourage your child to ask questions if they do not understand content or expectations

  • Check agenda, parent portal(grades), daily homework link
