Welcome to Ms. Deyoe's First Grade WebPage!

February is here and will go by quickly. Since we have our winter break this month we will be doing a lot of activities in a short time.

Things that we will focus on over the next few weeks are place values. We will be able to compare and write numbers from 0 to 120. We will study the hundreds place value as we begin to master the tens and ones place values.  The use of the hundreds chart will be helpful while focusing on number relationships, such as greater than and less than symbols.

It was great to see everyone at open house for Catholic Schools Week. Hopefully you got the chance to check out our work and creative writing. We loved making our Valentine's holders with you on Special Persons Day. Be sure to check out our newsletter each week to see what exciting events will occur.

We will continue to use words with short vowels in them as we study long vowel patterns this month. We've learned the silent e at the end of a word makes a vowel say it's name. Please continue to practice old spelling words at home as well as new words. It will be important to discuss the word patterns as you review spelling words at home.

The Water Cycle never stops; we know that the sun heats the water and turns it into water vapor; this process is called evaoporation. When the water vapor cools in the air it turns back into water, forming a cloud; this is called condensation. When the drops of water get so big and heavy the gravity pulls them back to the Earth as rain, snow, sleet, or hail; this is called precipitation. All of the water collects together and the process starts again. We will be talking about the types of clouds that make the weather during the second week in February.

In Health we will learn how to keep our teeth healthy. We will have a guest speaker come in to talk about Dental Health, since February is Dental Health Month.

Our Social Studies lessons will focus on the presidents Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. We will hear and read stories about them, write about them, and do SMART Board activites to compare and contrast them.

In Religion we will continue to talk about forgiving others for sins and how to live like Jesus. We will talk about our daily prayer each day during morning meeting and begin to write our own daily intentions at our prayer table. First Grade hosts mass in a few months.

February Birthdays- Chantel and Shivam

Please remember that LIBRARY is on TUESDAYS and your child should bring his/her library book with them on Tuesdays.

Also, be sure to read our newsletters for important information about classroom activities coming up and review topics with your children at home.

Love,

Ms. Deyoe
