Welcome to my webpage. I am excited to use this resource to better communicate with students, parents, and community members about what is happening both in my classroom and in the Gifted and Talented program at Coronado High School.
My responsibilities here at Coronado include teaching a class each semester called Constitutional and Criminal Law. As a former full-time member of Coronado's Social Studies department for over 17 years, I grew passionate about teaching students about the law. I also helped establish and sponsor Coronado's Mock Trial team, and currently co-sponsor the National History Day program.
As the Gifted and Talented Resource teacher, I have the opportunity to act as a resource for students who may need an advocate while striving toward their greatest potential. My goal is to connect our gifted students with challenging courses and activities that feed their intellectual, creative, or leadership capacity.
Serving as Coronado's CU Gold and Advanced Placement (AP) coordinator I am able to counsel and connect students with current post-graduate options. CU Gold, in conjunction with both UCD and UCCS, offers primarily juniors and seniors the opportunity to earn college credit while taking classes at Coronado. Since we are one of the largest CU Gold programs in the state, my job is to encourage, inform, and assist students, parents, and teachers through the process of registering students in those dual or concurrent enrollment courses.
I also coordinate the Advanced Placement program, whereby students enroll in rigorously instructed courses to prepare for college and/or to sit for the AP exams held in May of each school year. Last year, Coronado had over 100 students take over 214 tests, with 74% of those who tested earning a 3 or better on those tests. At a great savings to students and parents alike, many of our students are able to move right into their sophomore level classes when they enter college and feel better prepared for the rigor at the college level.
Coronado is a great school. I feel very fortunate to be part of this gifted staff with excellent students, and a wonderful Westside community. I look forward to working with the students and the challenging year ahead.
