GO (Group for Outreach)
Working closely with staff and students we have decided to move forward with Sharelife sponsored and funded agencies when committing to social justice/ outreach initiatives. This will affirm for us our school prayer of being “God’s Hands and Feet” in all we do. Also, looking at the groups and initiatives that His Eminence Cardinal Ambrozic supported as our Bishop, we will also sponsor and support all initiatives that promote healthy family living, including new immigrants that recently settled in our local community as well as working with the poor and marginalized. This provides an opportunity for both staff members and students to actively engage in the faith life of the school community. We will strive to become educated and highly involved in the injustices that exist in our local community and our community at large. This would also include the global community. Our hope will be to work closely with the Knights Table in Brampton, Dr. Simone’s Canadian Food for Children in Mississauga, ShareLife, and to help organize an overseas trip where we can actively take part in the lives of those we are called to serve i.e. Northern Ontario, Third World, Missions, etc. We also provide monthly service opportunities with Mary Centre, Evergreen, and Street Patrol. Where possible, we will continue to be the hands and feet of Christ in all that we do and with whom we come in contact with. Each department in our school will have the opportunity to invite students to participate in our monthly service initiatives that include organizations such as; Mary Centre, Evergreen, Street Patrol, Knights Table, and Dr. Simone’s Warehouse. This will provide all departments the ability to take an active leadership role in outreach programs. Finally, as a community of faith, we collectively organize 4 major fundraisers throughout the school year that link directly with the liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church and help support all our local and international outreach initiatives and efforts: Ordinary Time- Thanksgiving Food Drive Advent- Christmas Baskets Lent- Day of Service & Fast Easter- Tent City (Homelessness & Poverty Awareness)
