Aloysius Cardinal Ambrozic
Message from Aloysius Cardinal Ambrozic On the occasion of the Mass to celebrate his Cardinalate Monday March 2, 1998 Today I must begin by thanking Canada, this great country with its openness and welcoming acceptance, which has given me and so many others so much by way of personal opportunity. Not perfect, it nevertheless stands as a model of what our world must become – people from all parts of the globe who together have created a living and working environment marked by tolerance and understanding. We need to continue to listen to one another’s experience and patiently learn to live with diversity in our common pursuit of dignity under God. During my fifty years in Canada in the city of Toronto, the city which is yours and mine has become more and more a place of different languages and of numerous cultures. The Toronto scene has been enriched with the presence of Muslims, of Buddhists, of Hindus and of members of other religions who have grown in dialogue with the Christian and Jewish communities. The religious diversity of our archdiocese gives all of us the opportunity to deepen our own faith, to appreciate the human and divine treasures contained in other religions and beliefs, and the opportunity to reinforce our dedication to the deep and fundamental realities of the divine world and the human world.
