HISTORY of Ruston Junior HS In 1983 a large $14½ million bond election passed which provided for a new junior high school. The site was a 30 acre tract to be purchased from Mr. J.S. Tarbutton. The site was in northwest Ruston in the northeast corner of the juncture of Parish Road #106 and I-20 North Service Road. With the growing population of Ruston, a fourth elementary school was needed, so Glenview Junior High was changed to Glenview Elementary. The new junior high was to be the first new school built in Ruston since 1963. This created the need for a brand new 7th and 8th grade school, as a result, Ruston Junior High School was born! The architect was Herbert Land from Monroe. Ruston Junior High School opened its doors in August of 1986 with the first principal being Siscro McCarty.
The following is a list of people who have served as principal: 1986-1987 Siscro McCarty 1987-1990 Dr. Charles Scriber 1990-2001 Sandra Henderson 2001-2004 Randy Moore 2004-2006 Dr. Carrie Ferguson 2006-Present Tim Nutt
2006 Renovation In 2006, construction began on new additions to the school which included a girls gym/multipurpose room, wing of eight classrooms, concession stand, softball and football fields. Also, a teachers’ parking lot was added in front of the school. We are very proud of our school and we encourage you to stop by and visit anytime!
2010-2011 The state of Louisiana places a great deal of importance on test results. Louisiana schools are given an identical school performance score goal of 120 by 2014. Schools receive a school performance score based on test scores (90%) and attendance (10%). For the 2010-2011 school year, Ruston Junior HS received a school performance score of 96.3. This is a growth of 5.8 from the previous year; 1.1 points short of our growth target. The SPS growth target goal for 2012 is 105. The growth label for the year is Minimal Academic Growth.
